A Closer Look At Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are custom-designed restorations that cap and protect a tooth following structural damage or decay. They help preserve the remaining healthy tooth from harm and can prevent the need for future extractions. If you have already sustained tooth loss, a dental implant-supported crown will replace the tooth altogether with maximum stability.

Do Not Delay Dental Treatment!

Putting off dental treatment can have serious consequences for the health and appearance of your smile. Fortunately, Drs. Orchard and Villamil can restore your teeth with a dental crown in a fraction of the time required with traditional methods. I have had extensive dental work done by Dr. Orchard. He is a true artist. The staff is amazing and smart and accommodating to your needs. I have never met a staff and Doctor that is this amazing and truly care about their patients. I moved to Colorado and still fly down to Corpus to have any dental work and yearly check ups done.

Same-Day Crowns With CEREC

Our Corpus Christi office is equipped with the CEREC® system allowing patients to receive a permanent crown in one office visit. CEREC® is an incredible tool in modern dentistry that uses CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing) technology to create ultra-precise restorations.

Our in-house CEREC milling machine can fabricate a crown from a solid block of porcelain ceramic in under an hour, allowing you to leave your appointment with a permanent restoration. CEREC treatment is not only more convenient than the traditional alternative but can better protect your tooth structure by doing away with flimsy temporary crowns

Check Out Our Results!

The use of prosthetic teeth can be seen throughout history from shell teeth in Ancient Egypt to gold bridges in ancient Rome. Needless to say, restorative dentistry has come a long way since then. Modern restorations like our porcelain ceramic and zirconia crowns are not only incredibly durable, but are also virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth.

How do I know if I need a dental crown?

Crowns Treat Several Problems

  • Chips and Cracks
  • Weakened Structure
  • Cosmetic Imperfections
  • Tooth Decay
  • Infection
  • Tooth Loss

While some patients notice obvious symptoms of a dental condition, others may be completely unaware a problem exists. It is important to attend regular checkups so we can diagnose and treat a compromised tooth early on. Our dentists will provide thorough preventative care and if needed, schedule you an appointment for a dental crown in a timely fashion.

Your Simple Treatment Timeline

Day of Procedure

Anesthetic

We begin by administering a local anesthetic to gum your teeth and gums. While patients should not be able to feel any pain from the procedure, we also offer nitrous oxide to treat cases of dental phobia.

Prepare Tooth

The dentist will then treat any tooth decay and infection, oftentimes with a root canal. A root canal removes bacterium and decay from the inner pulp chamber to save the natural tooth structure.

Digital Impressions

Next, our dentist will take digital impressions of your teeth with our high-tech iTero® intraoral scanner. This wand-like device captures the most precise images of your mouth in seconds, allowing us to immediately get to work on your crown.

Craft Crown

We then send the design blueprint to our in-house CEREC machine, where diamond-tipped milling tools carve your crown from a single block of porcelain. Our dentists expertly color match the material to your tooth enamel and can even shade and glaze the restoration later-on to perfectly match the hues of your surrounding teeth.

Placement

In less than an hour, your dental crown will be ready for placement. Our dentist will check the look and fit of the restoration over your tooth before carefully securing it to the surface with special dental cement.

5 Stars!

"I’ve seen both Dr. Orchard and Dr. George and I absolutely love them both... I need quite a bit of work done on my teeth, so I’m grateful that I have wonderful dentists that always make sure I’m comfortable during my procedures. I never feel any pain and even receive personal calls from Dr. George to follow-up. I highly recommend both Doctor Orchard and Doctor George for your dental needs."

What if I am missing a tooth?

Consider an Implant-Supported Crown

The dentists at our Corpus Christi practice have undergone additional training to offer dental implants. Implants are surgically placed in the gums and support a custom-designed restoration. Unlike traditional bridges, implant-supported crowns do not require alternations to your adjacent teeth and will stay in place with maximum stability. By replacing your tooth root, dental implants will even promote better longterm oral health, preserving your jaw tissue and preventing further tooth loss. Ask Drs. Orchard and Villamil if implants can work for you at your next visit to our Corpus Christi office.

Caring for Your Dental Crown

We offer a ten-year guarantee on all our restorative treatments. Crowns, bridges, and other restorations are not expected to last forever, but with the proper care, you can count on them to provide you with many years of confident, healthy smiles. Maintaining your dental crown is easy and intuitive. We reccomend you follow just a few simple instructions:

Avoid Excess Force

It is important to avoid chewing overly sticky or hard foods with your restoration. Just like a normal tooth, your crown can wear down or become cracked when under extreme pressure.

Practice Good Oral Hygiene

It is very important to brush and floss regularly especially if you have a traditional crown or bridge that is dependent upon adjacent teeth for support. We encourage you to alter your flossing technique from up and down, to front and back to prevent dislodging the restoration.

See The Dentist

Patients should make appointments to see the dentist on a biannual basis for a routine exam and cleaning. Our Corpus Christi office makes it easy to schedule your check-ups. Just send us a quick message online and we will get back to you.
