What Is a Porcelain Veneer?

A veneer is a thin, custom-made porcelain shell attached to the front surface of a tooth. Porcelain veneers conceal intrinsic stains, misshapen teeth, and more to enhance the overall look of your smile.
Drs. Orchard and Vilamil have extensive experience in crafting porcelain veneers, merging their skills in art and science to give you the smile of your dreams.

See Results Faster Than Ever Before

Same-Day Veneers

Traditionally, veneers take one to two weeks, but we can offer the same high-quality results in a fraction of the time with chairside laminates, also known as same-day veneers. Our Corpus Christi dental office is equipped with the state-of-the-art CEREC® system that manufactures your custom porcelain restorations in less than an hour. Using CAD/CAM technology (computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing), we will design your veneers before your eyes on our chairside monitor and send the blueprints right to the in-house milling machine. Same-day veneers are best suited for treating a few teeth or less. If you are considering more comprehensive enhancement, we may recommend traditional porcelain veneers. Nonetheless, chairside laminates are a wonderfully convenient way for our patients with busy schedules to make the time for cosmetic dentistry

I have had extensive dental work done by Dr. Orchard. He is a true artist. The staff is amazing and smart and accommodating to your needs. I have never met a staff and Doctor that is this amazing and truly care about their patients. I moved to Colorado and still fly down to Corpus to have any dental work and yearly check ups done.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Most patients at our Corpus Christi practice are good candidates for dental veneers. During your consultation, we will examine your smile and help you decide if the treatment can meet your needs. Some factors we take into consideration include...

Sufficient Tooth Enamel

In order to place a veneer, our dentist must remove a small layer of tooth enamel. If you do not have adequate enamel density in order to support a dental veneer, we can suggest an alternative treatment such as composite resin.

Good Oral Health

Patients should have good oral health and be free of decay and periodontal disease. If you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding), we may recommend a mouthguard to help you protect your veneers.

Commitment to Upkeep

It is important to understand that dental veneers require a permanent change to the tooth structure. The best candidates are committed to proper care and the occasional replacement about every 15 years.

What can I expect during traditional treatment?

Timeline for Porcelain Veneers

Patients looking to address multiple teeth for a more comprehensive enhancement will likely receive traditional veneers. Treatment usually involves two appointments at our Corpus Christi office over one to two weeks. Here is what you can expect...

Consultation

Our dentists will examine your smile and discuss your goals for cosmetic improvements. We will help you decide how many teeth to treat and create a custom plan.

Preparation

Next, we will remove a small layer of tooth enamel to make room for your veneers. If you are particularly nervous or have sensitive teeth, we can provide nitrous oxide to help you stay calm and relaxed while we work.

Impressions

Using our high-tech Itero® intraoral scanner, the dentist takes digital impressions of your teeth to design your restorations. In the meantime, we will provide you with temporary veneers to wear until your custom restorations are ready.

Construction

The designs are sent to our trusted dental lab where technicians construct the veneers. The porcelain is carefully chosen to match your natural enamel and fit precisely on the surface of the teeth. We use IPS e.max® for the highest-quality results.

Placement

Once the veneers are complete, you will return to our office to have them placed. We will check the look and fit of the veneers and make any adjustments to ensure your satisfaction. Finally, the veneers are bonded to the front of each treated tooth with special dental cement.

Care and Maintenance

Veneers are easy to maintain and require much of the same care as your natural teeth. Simply practice good dental hygiene by brushing with a non-abrasive toothpaste at least twice per day and flossing once a day. Avoid biting anything particularly hard or sticky such as caramels or ice cubes, and be mindful about grinding your teeth. We can recommend an oral appliance to protect your smile, if needed. Along with regular cleanings and exams, these habits can help you get the most out of your investment for years to come.
